Our Philosophy
Welcoming you into our family…
Surfside Kidz early learning centre was formed on the land of the Yuin people of Walbunja clan. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres strait people as the traditional custodians of this country and their connections to the land, water and community to which we operate on. We pay our respects to them and their culture both past and present.
We believe the first 5 years of a child’s life are the most important.
Both Maria Montassori and Urie Bronfrenbrenner have theories that we at Surfside Kidz strive to follow.
Maria Montessori theory outlines the importance of independent play, observation, following the child, correcting the child, prepared environment and absorption.
While Urie Bronfrenbrenner’s theory outlines the importance of a child’s ecological system from relationships, social aspect and environment.
We provide a safe, healthy and well supervised space for children.
The Children are our future, therefore we teach them to the best of our abilities.-Becky
We provide a learning environment for children that is warm, nurturing, fun and stimulating.
We believe that children learn through play and need a balance of open ended commercial and natural resources to promote interactions, spontaneity, risk-taking, exploration, discovery and connection with nature.
We provide children with a regular routine where they will be given adequate time for meals and rest. We provide experiences which will give each child the opportunity to explore music, movement, language, science, nature and art.
Educators acknowledge the uniqueness and potential of all children.
Educators meet the needs of each individual child. They demonstrate understanding and acceptance when dealing with challenging behaviour.
Surfside Kidz provides healthy, nutritious meals to support the needs and growth of each individual child.
Children need the opportunity to learn and thrive in their own time, not to feel pressured to be something they are not- Brooke
Educators provide the highest quality care every day to help each child.
Being an educator means not only teaching others but being able to learn yourself.- Sylvia
Educators will provide the highest quality care every day to help each child achieve the best possible outcomes possible.
Educators will follow our Centre Philosophy to help guide the programming process and also the implementation of their program
All educators will be valued and treated with the respect, we encourage all educators to express their interests and share them with the Children, Families and other educators.
We are committed to continuously improving and reflecting on our practice.
Surfside Kidz has a commitment to continuous improvement and maintains a culture of ongoing reflection and self-review.
Effective evaluation and self-review enables our service to continuously improve our policies, procedures and practices, which in turn enables the nominated supervisor, educators and co-ordinators to improve their practice, which contributes directly to improved learning outcomes for children.
“Teaching the children valuable skills throughout their early life will lead to success in the future.”- Leisa
Surfside Kidz recognises that families are the foundation in children’s growth and development.
“Family involvement in the centre is important in the development of a child”- Gabby
We will ensure children and families feel included and welcome by celebrating cultural and religious events and acknowledging and respecting religious and cultural beliefs.
Educators will develop positive relationships with families based on mutual trust and a high level of open communication. We will make decisions together with the families to ensure the children are learning to their best ability. We will help to guide and support families in their role, while also learning from families in order to achieve the best outcomes for children.
“Having a trusting relationship with families is important in forming a relationship with the child” – Sandi
Our aim is to function as an extended family in order to provide your child with the security, warmth and love which are essential to their development and growth.
The Community, Sustainability & the land we live on
Children who have a supportive and safe environment are children that will thrive the most- Elijah
Educators will guide children in developing an appreciation for the environment and sustainable practices to protect and preserve our world.
We will aim to achieve a sense of wonder, a feeling of belonging to and a love of the land, nature and animals so that children develop a lifelong, respectful relationship as well as a positive & proactive attitude toward the environment and a sustainable future.
We aim to engage in the community, to explore, to meet the people in our community, to engage in diverse activities and to learn about the world we live on.
About Us
We are a family owned and operated childcare group since 2004 that is dedicated to providing high quality childcare. We understand that deciding on a centre for your child will be one of the most important decisions you will have to make. We know this because we are parents as well and we have had to make the same decision.
