kathy-and-sophia-editedManager Curriculum and staff development – Kathy Patrick

Kathy Patrick has been working in the Early Education profession since 1998, after completing her Bachelor of teaching – the same year she became a mum. Since then she has worked as a Teacher, Casual Teacher and as a Director in a variety of Long Day Care Settings.

Kathy has been heavily involved as an advocate for children, families and the Early Education Sector in a variety of ways. She was part of the original development of the Transition to School Project with ICS and Wollongong City Council. Kathy was also involved in the push for 1:4 ratios for children under two. This was implemented through the new curriculum framework document that came out in 2012. She is currently involved with the “Quality Matters” campaign as the electoral convenor for Cunningham. This campaign is designed to increase recognition of the importance of Early Education in regards to children, families and the community, as well as professional recognition for educators in Early Learning sector. Kathy is also a Joey Scout Leader at her local Scout Group.

In 2009 she came to Boombalee Kidz to work as a teacher in the Pre-School Room. Kathy now works as the Manager of Curriculum and Staff Development. Researching different practices, ideas, theories, resources, training, conferences, in-services, and providing this information to the centres for them to incorporate into their curriculum. Her role involves visiting the centres regularly , participating in the day and then going back to her office to find the best ways to support the educators to provide a great curriculum. Kathy has recently completed her Certificate IV in Training and Assessment in order to provide greater training opportunities for the Educators working at all of our centres.

Next year Kathy is heading back to University to begin her Master of Education – Early Years.

 

karen-surfsideNominated Supervisor – Karen Tetley

Karen Tetley was born and bred in Goulburn and is the mother of four fantastic children. Karen really enjoys fishing expeditions with her family even if she is the only one not to catch anything.

Karen began her career in the early learning profession as a cook in Canberra in 2011. It wasn’t long before she realised she had found her calling and she decided to complete her Certificate III in Children’s Services.

Karen moved to the south coast in 2014, the same year she began studying for her Diploma in Children’s Services and working at The Learning Tree, now Surfside Kidz .

Karen enjoys working with and being around children, as she is a kid at heart herself. Karen says that one of the most satisfying aspects of her job is talking with parents about their child’s day at the centre.

 

jod-surfsideEducational Leader – Jodie

Jodi has been working in the Early Education profession since 1998 when she completed her Diploma of Children Services at CIT in Canberra. Two years later she went to University of Canberra to complete her Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood 0-8 years) which she did so in 2003.

Jodi did some relief work at primary schools around Canberra before moving to Batemans Bay in 2004 and gaining a position at The Learning Tree (now Surfside Kidz) as the Nominated Supervisor. Jodi left in 2005 to go on maternity leave and 4 babies and 5 years later she rejoined the team in 2010 as the Early Childhood Teacher in the 3-5 year old room.

Jodi is passionate about Early Childhood Education and believes every child has a right to quality education. She believes in providing a learning environment where every child feels safe and secure. This environment foster’s each child’s self-esteem, self-confidence and uniqueness.

Jodi loves working with the fantastic and dedicated team at Surfside Kidz and finds working with all our beautiful children and their families very rewarding.
