Kathy Patrick has been working in the Early Education profession since 1998, after completing her Bachelor of teaching – the same year she became a mum. Since then she has worked as a Teacher, Casual Teacher and as a Director in a variety of Long Day Care Settings.

Kathy has been heavily involved as an advocate for children, families and the Early Education Sector in a variety of ways. She was part of the original development of the Transition to School Project with ICS and Wollongong City Council. Kathy was also involved in the push for 1:4 ratios for children under two. This was implemented through the new curriculum framework document that came out in 2012. She is currently involved with the “Quality Matters” campaign as the electoral convenor for Cunningham. This campaign is designed to increase recognition of the importance of Early Education in regards to children, families and the community, as well as professional recognition for educators in Early Learning sector. Kathy is also a Joey Scout Leader at her local Scout Group.

In 2009 she came to Boombalee Kidz to work as a teacher in the Pre-School Room. Kathy now works as the Manager of Curriculum and Staff Development. Researching different practices, ideas, theories, resources, training, conferences, in-services, and providing this information to the centres for them to incorporate into their curriculum. Her role involves visiting the centres regularly , participating in the day and then going back to her office to find the best ways to support the educators to provide a great curriculum. Kathy has recently completed her Certificate IV in Training and Assessment in order to provide greater training opportunities for the Educators working at all of our centres.

Next year Kathy is heading back to University to begin her Master of Education – Early Years.

Sarah Larkin – Nominated Supervisor

My name is Sarah Larkin. I have been working at Boombalee Kidz for 10 years. I worked as the room leader in the 0-3 Room for 4 years before then working as the room leader in the 3-5 room. I was then asked to take on the Nominated Supervisor role and have been now for the past 6 years. I have watched it change and grow in this time and it has been amazing to be a part of such a wonderful transformation. It has become a place where children can grow and develop. I love being a part of the families and children’s lives and knowing that we as Educators make such an impact in those first few years. I have been working in the Early Childhood Profession for 14 years. I finished high school in year 10 knowing what career path to take as I had a passion for Early Childhood. I finished my Diploma by the time I was 18 years and started working Full Time/Part time/ Casual and Support Worker positions in Pre Schools and Long Day Care centres in the Wollongong area. I have met some amazing and talented educators along the way, especially the team here at Boombalee Kidz. In 2009 I decided I wanted to expand my knowledge on Early Childhood so I enrolled in my Teaching Degree 0-5 years. I completed it in 2011 and became the Teacher at Boombalee Kidz. In 2014 I became a Mum to a child of my very own. I love watching her grow and develop and I drop her off to her Early Learning Centre knowing she is cared for.
I enjoy spending my weekends with my family and taking my daughter to swimming and dancing lessons.
